Welcome to PipSplit. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our expense sharing application, available as both a web application and mobile app ("the App").

1. Information You Provide

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (encrypted).
Profile Information: If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google.
Group and Expense Data: Information you enter including group names, member names (which may be nicknames or aliases), expense descriptions, amounts, and payment records.

2. Automatically Collected Information

Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App through Firebase Analytics, including features used, pages visited, and time spent in the App.
Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system, browser type, and IP address. For mobile app users, this may include additional device identifiers used for analytics and advertising purposes.
Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience and for analytics purposes.
Advertising Identifiers: When using the mobile app, we may collect mobile advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID) for advertising and analytics purposes.

3. Media and Camera Access

To provide receipt scanning and attachment functionality, the app enables you to upload images.

Camera: You may use your device's camera to capture photos of receipts. The app launches your device's native camera and only accesses the specific photo you choose to capture. Photos are processed locally and are not automatically uploaded unless you explicitly attach them to an expense.
Photo Library: You may select existing receipt images from your device's storage. We do not scan your library; we only access the specific files you explicitly select via the system picker. Selected photos are uploaded to our secure servers only when you attach them to an expense record.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality
Enable you to create and manage expense groups
Calculate and track shared expenses and payments
Authenticate your account and ensure security
Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
Display relevant advertisements through Google AdSense (web) and Google AdMob (mobile)
Prevent fraud and abuse
Comply with legal obligations

Google AdSense (Web Application)

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on the web version of our App. Google may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to our App or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings .

Google AdMob (Mobile Application)

We use Google AdMob to display advertisements in the mobile app. AdMob may collect and use your mobile advertising identifier, device information, and usage data to serve personalized ads. AdMob partners with third-party advertising networks that may also collect information. Data collected includes:

Mobile advertising identifiers (IDFA for iOS, Advertising ID for Android)
Device information (device model, operating system version)
IP address and general location information
App usage and interaction data

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Firebase's infrastructure, which employs industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your password is encrypted and never stored in plain text. We use secure authentication protocols to protect your account.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

With Other Users: Group and expense information you create is shared with other members of your expense groups as necessary for the App's functionality.
Service Providers: We share data with third-party service providers (Firebase, Google AdSense, Google AdMob, hCaptcha) as described above, solely to provide and improve our services.
Advertising Partners: Mobile advertising identifiers and related data may be shared with Google AdMob and its advertising partners to serve personalized advertisements in the mobile app.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.

Your Data Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access: You can view and export your data within the App.
Correction: You can update or correct your information at any time.
Deletion: You can delete your account and associated data. Contact us if you need assistance.
Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a portable format.
Opt-Out: You can opt out of personalized advertising and certain analytics.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes.

Children's Privacy

PipSplit is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using PipSplit, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
